Interview Prep
Elana: it's not just what you've done — it's communicating what you're capable of and where you're headed. Build your answers here.
Vision Pitch — "What would you do in this role?"
Directly addresses the "creativity" feedback you received. Come in with a concrete plan, not just past experience.
Gap Answer Scripts
❓ "You don't have hands-on AI experience professionally." ▼ expand
Framework (Elana's approach): "That's fair — at my last company, a cybersecurity firm, we had strict tool restrictions that blocked most AI integrations. That said, I haven't let that stop me building. [What you've built personally]. More importantly, [transferable skill] maps directly to what you need here. And here's exactly how I'd approach [X] on day one..."
Your personal answer
❓ "You haven't used n8n / GTM engineering tools." ▼ expand
Framework: "I'm actively building that right now — I've already [what you've done in n8n]. The logic of connecting APIs, building trigger-action workflows — it's identical to what I've done in HubSpot workflows and [Make/Zapier]. The syntax is different. The strategic thinking isn't."
Your personal answer — update this as your n8n experience grows
❓ "We need someone with 5+ years / more seniority." ▼ expand
Framework: "I owned the entire marketing technology stack at an enterprise cybersecurity company — that's not junior scope. The real question is whether I've operated at the level you need, and I have: [specific example]. I got that role when I thought I was reaching for it — and I delivered. That's exactly how I think about this one."
Your personal answer — anchor on Cognyte specifics

Elana's Insights
Key takeaways from your May 31st call. Come back here when you need a reset.
Insight 1 — The Differentiator
AI experience overrides everything else on a CV right now.
Her director said anyone with hands-on AI project experience jumped to the top regardless of everything else. This isn't a nice-to-have. It's the filter.
Insight 2 — n8n > Claude for standing out
Claude is "easy." n8n is the edge.
Prompt-based tools are table stakes. n8n requires you to connect APIs and think architecturally. That's what hiring managers get excited about. Build there first.
Insight 3 — The Shift Is Real
MOPs as a title is being phased out. GTM Engineer is what's next.
Her CMO confirmed it. The role is evolving — more AI-focused, more technical. If you get a standard MOPs role today, it may look completely different in 12–24 months. Position for the direction, not the current label.
Insight 4 — The Real Bottleneck
Your presentation is likely the issue — not your skills.
You know you can do the work. You're just not communicating it convincingly. The gap isn't capability — it's articulation. Lead with what you'd do, not just what you've done.
Insight 5 — Vision Over History
"If I were in this role, here's what I'd build" is more powerful than a resume recitation.
Especially for GTM engineer / AI MOPs roles where nobody has the exact experience. Coming in with a concrete vision of what you'd improve is what "creativity" means to hiring managers.
Insight 6 — Apply Above Yourself
50% of people in their roles aren't qualified for them.
Her sister's rule — and Elana lives by it. The market runs on confidence and fit, not perfect credential matching. You already proved this at Cognyte. Do it again.
Insight 7 — Gap Questions Are Tests
When they push on what you haven't done, they may be testing how you handle pressure — not disqualifying you.
Have the framework ready: "I haven't done X yet — but here's what I have done, and here's why I know I can." Confidence under pressure is the signal they're looking for.
Insight 8 — The Best Tip of the Call
Define one clear unique selling point. Make it the centerpiece of everything.
Not a list of skills — one thing that makes you different. Then your CV, your pitch, and every interview answer builds around it. Everything else is noise until you nail this.
Insight 9 — Stepping Stone Strategy
A short pivot role to build missing AI experience is a legitimate path — not a step down.
Elana did it herself. Went to a company she didn't want to work for, got the skills she needed, moved up. If the AI experience gap keeps blocking you, a cloud/AI integration role (even 6 months) may be the faster route to the GTM engineer title.
6-Week GTM Engineering Plan
Free tools only. Each week builds on the last. By week 6 you have a complete Clay → Make → HubSpot pipeline, n8n AI workflow, HubSpot custom code, and Python API script — all documented and demoable.
Overall Progress
0 / 21 tasks complete
Week 1 of 6 0%
Week 1 Clay — Data Enrichment Foundations Current Focus
Build a Clay table of 50 target B2B/SaaS companies. Enrich with LinkedIn URL, employee count, tech stack signals, HubSpot usage indicator, and hiring signals. Add an AI column: ICP score 1–10 + one-line rationale for "would this company hire a GTM Engineer?" Filter to top 20.
📎 Shareable Clay table + exported CSV $0
Week 2 Make — Orchestration Layer Current Focus
Build a Make scenario: receive Clay webhook when company ICP ≥7 → deduplicate against HubSpot by domain → create HubSpot Company with all enrichment fields mapped → log result (created or skipped) to Google Sheet with timestamp.
📎 Make scenario screenshot + HubSpot Company record $0
Week 3 Clay → Make → HubSpot Full Pipeline Current Focus
Integration week. Extend Clay table with contact-level enrichment (waterfall email find). Extend Make to create Contact + Company + association, set lifecycle stage by ICP tier, enroll in HubSpot workflow. Record a 2–3 min Loom demo. Write a GitHub README with architecture diagram. This is your centerpiece portfolio piece.
📎 Loom demo + GitHub repo with README $0
Week 4 n8n — AI-Powered Workflow Current Focus
Install n8n locally (npx n8n — completely free). Build: HubSpot webhook triggers on new high-ICP contact → HTTP node fetches company LinkedIn description → Claude API node generates a personalized first-touch email draft → HubSpot node saves draft as contact note. SDR reviews and sends in 30 seconds. Extends the HITL pattern from your existing agent dashboard project.
📎 n8n workflow screenshot + HubSpot contact note with AI draft ~$0.05
Week 5 HubSpot Ops Hub — Custom Code Action Current Focus
Your home turf, extended. Build a custom code action (JavaScript) inside a HubSpot workflow: takes company domain → calls Brandfetch free API → returns industry + employee size → writes back to custom HubSpot properties. Also build a calculated property that scores leads on 4 weighted factors. Document the "why custom code vs. native workflow" logic — that's the interview point.
📎 HubSpot workflow + custom code on GitHub + before/after screenshot $0
Week 6 Python + HubSpot API + LinkedIn Agent Extension Current Focus
Two deliverables. (A) Python script: reads HubSpot contacts where lifecycle = lead AND last activity > 60 days, calculates dormancy score, bulk-updates a custom property, generates a CSV report grouped by owner. Commit to GitHub with README. (B) Extend your LinkedIn Content Agent: add a pre-step that pulls HubSpot deal activity this week and passes it as context so posts reference real pipeline patterns.
📎 Python repo on GitHub + sample CSV output + extended agent log $0
Your Unique Selling Point

"Unlike most GTM Engineer candidates who are still learning AI tools theoretically, I've already shipped a production-grade autonomous pipeline — a scheduled multi-MCP agent that independently researches trends, drafts LinkedIn content, and notifies me on WhatsApp with zero daily input — while simultaneously owning a full enterprise HubSpot stack at a cybersecurity firm where most AI integrations were locked out entirely. Now I'm adding the GTM engineering layer on top of that foundation: Clay enrichment pipelines, Make orchestration, n8n API workflows, and HubSpot custom code — built by someone who already knows how the CRM actually works, not just how to connect to it."
